One triops in a gallon bowl. He was in a 2 gallon critter keeper until 5/18. I transferred about 2/3 of a gallon into the new 1 gallon home and then added about 1/3 of a gallon of new, treated water. There are 3 or 4 sprigs of Hornwort, and the substrate is half gravel half sand, not mixed. Gravel helps waste break down, the sand gives him somewhere to search for food. This morning I topped his water off with treated water to bring the level up to match the shrimp bowl.
Today the levels are: Ammonia 0.25 ppm | Nitrite 0 ppm | Nitrate 0 ppm
I didn’t test the bowl today, I just changed out about 2 cups of water in an attempt to clear the water up over the next couple of days. I don’t want to shock him, but he doesn’t seem bothered by much. Fed him an algae wafer and I think he’s in triops heaven, lol.
10am: Changed out about 2 cups again trying to clear the water up. Triops got super active when I was pouring new water in, but now is super sluggish. It did just molt last night, after laying eggs all day yesterday, but just in case it’s connected to the water changes, I’ll leave it alone for a while. It seems to do well with very little maintenance.
4:30pm: sluggishness didn’t last, about an hour after the water change, Trigy started zooming around, sifting through sand, and so forth. No digging behaviors, so I think it’s done with the eggs.
